Why would you ever use the HI-TECH compiler if you have to make your own functions where the CCS version does it for you One of the main reasons is portability. If you use the CCS compiler and its built-in functions, then the code you write is not portable to other systems that CCS doesn t support. You re locked in. You don t have to be of course. You could just code in an ANSI style , not using any builtin functions, creating your own, so they re easy to port. But then, you re losing the advantages the CCS compiler offers. It becomes a tradeoff between ease of use versus compatibility across platforms. If you never plan to switch platforms, then wouldn t sticking with the easier to use compiler be the right choice However, ease of use is only one of the things you ll need to consider.
